There are a lot of times when we find ourselves in the car with kids who don't want to be. To help combat the "are we there yet?" and "when are we going to get there?" questions we have developed a little game. I quickly found out that I Spy is a bit harder than I remember it being when I was a kid. Mostly because the kids don't get the concept of finding things IN the car to describe, not things we have just passed. This little game started as Bible Trivia, which my daughter rocked by the way. It has morphed into Jungle Trivia and other such trivia games. Last night, with a cranky Honey and an over stimulated B-Man (see here) we made our way over to my in-laws for Sunday Dinner. Since we have been reading Harry Potter (YES!!! FINALLY!!! I can FINALLY share my FAVOURITE BOOKS with my kids!! WOOHOO!!! Sorry, I got a little carried away there) we had a game of Harry Potter Trivia. Here's how we played Harry Potter Trivia. As you can probably guess, it's easily interchangeable.
At this point it can go one of two ways. The person who guessed it gets a turn to pick a character and ask questions OR you can go in a circle around the car so that everyone has a chance. I loved B-Man's clues last night. We are currently reading Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. Here were his clues:
Hahahahaha! Can you guess who he's talking about? P.S. It's better than the "Honey guess what's in pants" question he asked on the way home. FYI, he had rolled his car in his pant leg, THANK GOD! That could have gone REALLY wrong.

After an action packed weekend including baseball games, movies, work and another small child in my home our kids were beat. Especially Honey. And when Honey gets tired, well, let's just say she ain't so sweet no more! Friday night was my first ball game back with our Emmanuel team. I missed the first game of the season because of the horrible cold that I caught about 2 days beforehand. I came back swinging this season. I actually did! I hit my first ever triple! It was an honest triple too! As you can tell, I'm still proud of it. What can I say? As of today, it's the highlight of my whole career... ever... since I was a kid and used to pick flowers in the outfield. What was gross was around 9:30 the June bugs came out. It made me think of my team mate, Rachel, a few years ago when I accidently flung one on her because I had picked it up and didn't realize they had the ability to stick to you. YYUuuuuuggghhhhh! I can still feel it. **Side note: I haven't played in since about halfway through the season last year and I am S.O.R.E!!!!! Having a cold and being sore are not a good combination. End side note.** As a surprise for the kids since they were so good at the baseball game (virtually unheard of in past years) we took them to see Angry Birds. The kids loved it! I can't tell a lie, I was very surprised by it. I actually really enjoyed it myself. I would recommend it to parents with young children. To cap it all off B-Man had a friend over and Sunday after church and I took the 3 kids to the Rabbit Rescue to see the bunnies again. Honey really wanted to head back and see how everyone is doing and as always, I wanted to get some kisses from Peter. Throw some work in there and I have to say I'm "all funned out" tonight and ready for bed. Good night all! This is my B-Man. Five years of energy like a pinball. Bouncing off the wall and clinging to the ceiling. I'm not kidding. He starts when he gets up and he finishes sometime after he goes to sleep. He loves Star Wars and cars. Which is great because Hot Wheels came out with a line of Star Wars cars. This little nugget of cuteness is, dare I admit it... a morning person. UUUUUUGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHH!! We all know how I feel about mornings. Look at that face though, how can you say no? I'll tell you how. Picture this: It's before daylight. The birds have just started to make noise (stupid birds). I can hear the lambs down the road (grrr). I roll over and fall back to sleep. WHAM!!!!!!!! My door flies open. What the!?!?! I was in REM sleep, I wasn't prepared for this. I bolt upright in bed and flip around. Aaron makes a snort-y sound in his CPAP mask. "Mommy!!" my enthusiastic son yells, "The sun is coming up! Do you want to watch the sun rise?!" This is the part in the story where people usually says "awwww, isn't that cute?" No. No it's not. Okay maybe a little, but like I said before... any time before 11 am... Nuh-uh, not here sister. I like my sleep. I call it is "Anna" moment, you know, "the sky's awake, so I'm awake"? Okay maybe if you're not a parent you don't know, but it happens in the Frozen movie, I promise. Oh what can I say? I just love him to pieces, even if it means early morning wake up calls. He's a good kid, when he's at other peoples houses. I guess that means we're doing something right. What can I say? He's a chip off the old block, which means by the time he's 13 he'll be sleeping til noon.... sweeeeet. A few nights ago I had this great idea to help the kids get to bed. I named it the "Bunnified Bun Check". Sound complicated? It isn't really. Sound like it involves a bunny? You bet! I didn't think much about it when I started it I just thought it was a fun idea. Now it's a nightly thing. Both kids will actually run to their beds to get tucked in so that Baby Bear/Bun Solo/Ironbun/Atila the Bun (we haven't decided on a name) can happily hop around their bed "checking" for monsters. And hopefully not leaving anything behind, if you catch my drift. I knew how important this was the other night because we had allowed Honey to stay up late to watch wrestling (don't judge me). It was a holiday the next day so we didn't mind and we knew how excited it would make her. In all the confusion of the end of the event Baby Bear put himself in his cage and I closed the door. Uh-oh! Big Oops! Honey was so upset. I had to explain to her that Baby Bear was tired and would be more than happy to do the Bunnified Bun Check the next night. Then I proceeded to do the Bunnified Bun Check in his place. Not the same, but at least I got her giggling. Phew! (FYI Never try to be a bunny in a bunk bed. Ouch!) I have also, since the first night, had to use my "Baby Bear" voice whenever he is conducting his investigation. Oi! It's amazing because half the time I can't remember what I said or did, so my kids fill in the gaps for me. B-Man's favourite part is when he turns on his seahorse and calls it Baby Bear's butt music. I guess the first night Baby Bear turned it on himself and it startled him because there was music coming from his rear. Honey likes to pretend that Baby Bear doesn't know what stuffed animals are and can't figure them out. Which is more truth than pretend. It's fun making bedtime memories with my kids though. I hope that when they have kids they can do things like this too. It's the little things that make the most impact and, really, there is nothing better than listening to my kids giggle or seeing the huge smile on their face as I walk into their room carrying a 4 lb ball of fluff. It's just awesome! Do you have any bedtime memories from when you were a kid? How do you get your kids to bed without a fight? I'm going to go out on a limb and be totally honest right now. I was all fired up to do this whole 'blog' thing when I started but right about now I'm like, blaaaaah, I don't wanna. It almost seems like work, but it's not. I love to write and I love to share about the crazy things that happen to me. I like to be able to look back at things and chuckle. It just seems like the days get away from me and before I know it... BOOM... a week has gone by, then 2. Isn't that what life's like? You have every intention to call someone or drop in and say 'hello' and then before you know it, it's a year later! A year!!! (Seriously our neighbour lost her husband and I have wanted to stop in since last summer to let her know I'm thinking of her.) I don't get it.
Funny things have been happening and I have thought of different posts, I just haven't gotten around to it. I have some real problems with follow through. I recently did a study through Proverbs 31 about not quitting, and here I sit... the week after and I've almost quit this adventure.... ALREADY! I need a wake up call. We all need a wake up call. Go see that person. Call your parents. Give your kids a hug. Stop being so darn bent on doing all the stuff you're "supposed to" and start doing the stuff you keep putting off. That is all for today. What do you need to do? Now go do it and let me know how it went. |
